Microsoft 365 is getting a fresh new look, with updated logos rolling out across its core apps.

Microsoft say that “The core 10 Office apps were last updated in 2018”, it sure feels like it was less than 7 years ago, doesn’t it?!  Why is that?

The new icons are cute and modern – they’re supposed to emanate a “sense of fluidity and play” “where modern design meets seamless collaboration, and every colour signals a new possibility”.

Logos to Update

Microsoft designed “fluid shapes” that are “delightfully simple” and “rich and colourful” while also still “instantly recognisable”.   It’s not ALL Microsoft 365 icons that are changing for now, though.  For example, the Planner icon that was delivered in 2024 will remain the same – it’s only these 9 that are changing for now.

I don’t mind them at all, but I am dreading having to update every single slide deck or other training / display artefact we have to replace these icons! Thanks to Loryan Strant for providing this link to get the updated logos GitHub – loryanstrant/MicrosoftCloudLogos: A collection of Microsoft cloud product logos
